Superstar Rajinikanth
does involve himself in many charitable activities but ensures that
these are not reported in/by the media, but not this time around with
the word of mouth going virally in Bangalore locality. Rajinikanth has
recently indulged in one such act and the beneficiary this time around
is none other than the teacher who taught him for three years from Class
V to VII.
Rajini spent his childhood in Bangalore and studied at the Gavipuram Govt. School. Shanthamma,
now 78-years old, was his teacher who taught him Kannada, English and
Science. Shanthamma is residing at Bangalore’s Jalahalli locality and
has been going through troubled times as she and her husband are not
physically well enough to go to jobs to take care of their needs.
Rajini got to know of his former
teacher’s plight and wanted to meet his teacher and her husband in
person but due to his busy schedule with his upcoming 3-D animation film
Kochadaiiyaan, he couldn’t do so. Rajini remembered his teacher on
Teacher’s Day (on 05th September) and called his assistant and told him
“My schedule is delaying my meeting with Shanthamma teacher….get in
touch with her, know what her needs are and deposit the amount she
requires into her bank account. Please inform her that I would
definitely meet her when I visit Bangalore next time!”
‘Rajini’ Murugan, president of the
Bangalore Rajini Fans’ Club, was contacted over phone by Rajini’s
assistant in Chennai. In a couple of days’ time, Murugan visited
Shanthamma and deposited the Rs.3 lakhs that she wanted into her bank
account. Obviously moved by her former student’s gesture, Santhamma said
“I taught Rajini for three years from Class V to VII. His family was
struggling but Rajini would never worry about it and was a perfect
student.
“He was a mischievous boy and his
handwriting was very good. I would often tell him that he would become a
great man one day. Like I said, he is at the pinnacle of his career.
Though he’d give me as much as I wanted, my need is only Rs.3 lakhs and I
asked him . He has given me which many would not have the heart, I
bless him for a healthy and life and would pray to the Almighty to give
him whatever he wants,” Santhamma could hardly hold back her tears.
