Velmurugan sings in Maestro’s music
Playback singer Velmurugan is on a high.
He has just done something which all the playback singers badly want to
do and want this particular aspect to be part of their CV: singing in
Maestro Ilaiyaraaja’s music. Getting to sing in Ilaiyaraaja’s music for
playback singers is akin to cricketers dreaming about scoring a century
in Lord’s Cricket Ground, London which is considered as the ‘Mecca’ of
cricket.
Hailing from Vridhachalam, Velmurugan
came up the ranks the hard way and has to his credit hit songs such as
Venaam Machan Venaam…. (Oru Kal Oru Kannadi) and Ambalaikum pombalaikum
avasaram… (Kazhugu). It has been his long-time dream to sing in
Maestro’s music. He was over the moon when A.R. Rahman called him to
sing the song Komban sura… in the Dhanush-starrer Maryan recently.
However, in the final version of the
film, his song was replaced by a song sung by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
Recently, Velmurugan got a call from Maestro Ilaiyaraaja’s office and
was offered to sing the title song in an upcoming film titled as Oru
Oorla. Jumping with joy, Velmurugan went ahead and completed the
recording of the song, which was to be sung by the Maestro himself.
For some reasons, the Maestro had second
thoughts about it and finally called in Velmurugan to sing the song.
Velmurugan is now praying to the Almighty that this song should feature
in the film and shouldn’t face any last-minute hurdle
