Most of the frontline actresses in
Kollywood these days tend to skip the audio-launches and the
promotional activities of their films. And Recently the producers
councils advised producers to pay in full till the actress take part in
the concerned film’s audio-launch and other promotional activities.
The Council has now advised producers to
pay only 80% of the fee to the actresses and pay the remaining amount
after ensuring that the actors take part in the film’s audio-launch and
the promotional activities. On condition of anonymity, some frontline
heroines have now asked as to when the Council is ready to criticize and
punish them for this, why the same yard-stick is not applied to actors
such as Ajith and Santhanam who also don’t promote their respective
films in a big way.
Upset with the Council’s decision, these
actresses say that they ought to be paid separately for taking part in
such activities as their schedules hardly permitted them such luxuries.
If the Council persisted with its decision to pay the fee in
installments, actresses might be forced to increase their fee, they
point out. When the Council is so strict with the actresses, it appears
to overlook the absence of Ajith and Santhanam at these events.
“It looks as if the Council has exempted
the likes of Ajith and Santhanam from attending such events. Would it
apply the ‘pay-in-installments’ rule to them also? Like the reasons the
duo might have, actresses too could have plenty of reasons for not
taking part in such activities,” said a leading Tamil actress, obviously
not wanting to be named.
She also stated that Ajith gets in
writing prior to signing films that he should not be invited to film’s
promotional activities and added that Santhanam too has taken after
Ajith and has been following the same tactic.
