Story Review
The story as such might sound as old as hills. But Suseenthiran’s treatment and engaging narration makes the film work out big time. The family, romance and fun quotients added to the script are as refreshing as in the director’s previous films with ample dosage of emotions as well.
The story has equal or even a little more importance to the Villain than the hero. In the first half more screen time has been taken to detail the Villain’s means to climb the throne which also helps to establish his unmatchable valor. An otherwise unassuming hero facing on such a demon of a gangster has been portrayed in a riveting and also convincing manner.
The story of Sivakumar’s friendSethu (Vikranth) has been aptly clubbed with the main story line to increase the impact.
Performances
It can be said that Vishal has bounced back. Despite falling within the commercial framework the role is not a usual one for him. This is drastically different from what we have seen in his previous Madurai based films. Watching him perform in such an underplaying and unassuming role is a delight in itself. The actor has also succeeded in pulling off the stunt sequences which are not of the usual type.
Next to Vishal, it’s Bharathiraja who makes a lasting impression. The veteran director excels in the scenes where he expresses the grief of losing a son after living with him for 30 long years.
Lakshmi Menon appears in very few scenes and has done her part convincingly.
Soori does not try much to make the audience laugh but ensures a few chuckles here and there. Somasundaram as the menacing villain is apt. Vikranth in a role which is like an extended cameo has given his best and one hopes that this film paves way for his second innings.
D.Imman’s songs are passable and the hyped fy fy kalachufy number falls flat especially due to its placement. Rerecording is nice throughout the film and brilliant in the chasing sequence towards the climax.
Madhie’s lens give the apt look for the film. Dialogues penned by Bhaskar Sakthi and Suseenthiran are one of the pluses of the film.
