Gautham Karthik, son of veteran actor
Karthik, has expressed his long-standing wish to star in the remake of
his father’s Ullathai Allitha, a hilarious comedy which released in 1995
and turned out to be a blockbuster hit. Directed by Sundar C and with
Rambha as the heroine opposite Karthik, Ullathai Allitha rode on
Goundamani, Senthil and Manivannan’s rib-tickling comic sequences which
brought the roof down.
Gautham debuted as hero in Mani Ratnam’s
Kadal early this year. Despite Mani’s film-making instincts and
Oscar-winner Rahman’s music, Kadal didn’t scorch the box-office and
ended up as a failure. Gautham, however, managed to land up a few big
projects in Aishwarya Dhanush’s Vai Raja Vai opposite Priya Anand,
Thyagarajan’s Yennamo Yedho opposite Rakul Preet Singh and Nikeesha
Patel and Saravanan’s Sippai opposite Lakshmi Menon.
24-year old Gautham was speaking at the
meet-the-press event held in connection with the impending release of
Yennamo Yedho. “I don’t want to star opposite any one particular actress
but would love to do films opposite all of them. I don’t want to get
slotted in a particular image and would love to do romantic,
action-based and comedy films as well.
“I haven’t watched many films of my
grandpa Muthuraman but have watched all films of my father. If I get the
opportunity, I would surely love to star in the remakes of films such
as Pistha and Ullathai Allitha; both the fun-filled films, shot in and
around Ooty, are close to my heart. I’m not unduly bothered about the
failure of Kadal as I derived immense satisfaction from working in a
reputed director like Mani Ratnam,” concluded Gautham.
