Anjali
Actress Anjali is said to be seriously
thinking about surrendering herself before the Court so as to evade
arrest by the police in a case of defamation filed against her by
director-actor M. Kalanjiyam. A Chennai Court recently issued ‘arrest
warrant’ against Anjali for her continued absence at the trial of the
case and after she failed to appear in the Court in person despite
getting many summons from the Court.
A few months back, Anjali quit her
Chennai residence where she had been living in her Aunt Barathy Devi’s
care after accusing her Aunt of attempting to ‘swindle’ all her
hard-earned properties in connivance with Kalanjiyam. A few days after
remaining untraceable, Anjali appeared at the office of the DCP (West)
in Hyderabad and claimed that she had been staying in Mumbai as she
wanted to be ‘free’ for a few days.
Kalanjiyam had, in the meanwhile, filed a
defamation suit against Anjali with a Saidapet Court saying that
Anjali’s accusations had badly tarnished his name and ‘image’ in the
film industry as well as in the society. The trial had been going on for
a few months and Anjali had been giving the summons a miss. She was
asked to appear in person on 29th October and as she didn’t arrive at
the Court on that day, the judge issued ‘arrest warrant’ against Anjali.
Anjali’s advocate pleaded with the Court
that his client had been keeping ‘unwell’ for the past many days.
Notwithstanding this argument, the judge went ahead and issued
arrest-warrant. Legally, Anjali could be arrested at any time by the
police so as to produce her before the Court. Anjali is said to be
consulting her lawyers and might either surrender at the Court without
the knowledge of the press or might produce a medical certificate
justifying her staying away from the Court where the trial is held.
