Puthu Yugam
Pudhuyugam is the latest satellite television channel to have entered the living rooms and bedrooms of Tamils world-wide. The channel, which was launched only last week, appears to have become quite popular among television-viewers and audiences. An off-shoot of the Pudhiya Thalaimurai news channel, Pudhuyugam has brought along it many ‘retired’ actresses to host its programmes and to star in its tele-serials.
Simran plays the lead role of a protagonist in the tele-serial Agnipaarvai on this channel. Simran’s role of a college professor in the tele-serial is said to be based on a real-life character; such characterization is said to be the first-of-its-kind in Tamil television. Simran plays 40-year old Madhavi, a widowed professor, who is found pregnant after the vacation which surprises her students.
Sneha, the out-of-favour actress, is hosting a reality show titled Melam Kottu Thaali Kattu which offers solution to the middle-class community in executing perfectly all work relating to hosting of marriage in their respective families. She also presents gifts to the newly-wed brides on the show. For once, Sneha is speaking on her own voice and doesn’t survive on dubbed voices as she has mostly done in films.
Sonia Agarwal, the 30-plus actress whose film career has almost come to an end, gets a new lease of life by getting to play the lead role in another tele-serial titled Malli. Veteran actress Archana, the national award-winning actress, makes a comeback to acting after a long time by starring in the tele-serial Unarvugal to be directed by Suresh Krishna.
Abhirami, the almost-forgotten actress (of Virumandi fame), is also hosting a reality quiz show on the channel.
