Film-maker K.S. Ravikumar, who has the habit of speaking his mind out, made a somewhat startling revelation at the audio-launch of an upcoming film titled Vizha. It stars ‘Master’ Mahendran, the child-star of many films, debuting as hero after maturing into a handsome young guy. Barathy Balakumaran is making his debut as director with the film.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Ravikumar criticized James Vasanthan, the film’s music director and also a popular television anchor/critic. “I introduced Master Mahendran as a child star in Naattaamai many years back and am happy that he has grown into making his debut as hero.
“I once hated James Vasanthan a lot during the days when he would sit clad in a suit on a couch and criticize newly-released films at will. He would speak as if he was the one who invented cinema. It had irritated me many a time in the past. Irrespective of however good a particular film was, James would also end in a manner in which he would rhythmically criticize the film using his eloquence in Tamil.
“I don’t know whether it was his own stuff or he simply reflected his producers’ views; even good films have suffered due to his criticism. However, when he debuted as music director with Subramaniapuram a few years back, he silenced many of his critics and earned thousands of fans. I never thought he would be so talented as a musician; thank God he is no more donning the critic’s role on the telly,” concluded Ravikumar.
