Speaking at the function to mark the centenary celebrations of Indian films which has been going on in Chennai since Saturday (21st September), actor Vijay was in full praise for Amma, the State’s chief minister. The organizers reportedly had second thoughts about inviting Vijay to the function after the recent misunderstanding that had creeped in, but finally decided to invite him neglecting father SA Chandrasekhar to attend the grand celebrations.
Vijay was assigned the task of highlighting the efforts put in stunt men in the industry, Speaking on it Vijay said,“Cinema continues to grow; labourers shed their perspiration while working but the stunt artistes shed their blood in doing so. Ironically, they always work expecting to meet with an accident and hoping that it does not occur,” said Vijay and recalled an incident when the wife and daughter of a stunt artiste were sitting on the sidelines and were crying profusely even as the stuntman went on to complete a risky sequence.
“It was so moving…I can’t forget it easily. In another instance, a stuntman, who was to ride a car amid a ball of fire, had completed a brief conversation with his daughter prior to the shoot of the particular sequence. When I asked him why he did so, he replied that he was not sure he would be there to speak to his daughter after the shoot of the sequence….his words would move even the strongest of persons.
“Many pains, injuries and even deaths are behind the riveting action sequences that the fans watch and enjoy on screen. They are not stunt artistes but warriors in my dictionary. I always salute them,” said Vijay and added that it was a great honour for him and others in the film industry that the centenary celebrations are taking part in Chennai during Amma’s regime.
“After starting her life as an actress, Amma has traveled through a tough path and has faced and flattened all the challenges and opposition that she had to encounter on the way to reach this position. In the whole of India, only in Tamil Nadu that we find an actress ruling the State which is a great honour for all of us,” concluded Vijay, apparently hoping that his next film might not face any problems in its theatrical release as did Thalaivaa some time back.
