Nithya Menon comes across as a refreshingly different actress among today’s crop of actresses. Nithya, who has starred in films such as Veppam and Nootrenbadhu, is presently starring in two major films. One is the Cheran-directedJK Enun Nanbanin Vaazhkai and the other is the Sripriya-directed Malini 22 Palayamkottai, which is the Tamil remake of the Malayalam hit film 22 Female Kottayam.
25-year old Nithya, who looks plump and doesn’t lose sleep over the fact that she doesn’t possess an hour-glass figure, says “I have always believed in performance and not in ‘exposing’ to reach the top. I’m a director’s actress but I always want to improvise upon what the directors say. I think I’m considered as a good actress because I put in something extra other than which is narrated to me by the directors.
“I’m not bothered about the fee I’m paid per film; I consider the roles I play as more important than the money factor. I was tense to play the lead role in Sripriya’s fim, as I’m the type which gets involved deeply with the character I play. It was a disturbing script as it addresses the all-important topic of sexual molestation. I agreed to do the role as I was convinced that this was my way of fighting such ills in society.
“Expectedly, I broke down while shooting the molestation sequence but still asked Sripriya to make it appear as violent as possible as I wanted it to look realistic on screen. In Cheran’s film, I play an interior decorator and I loved the script and the way Cheran narrated it to me,” concludes Nithya.
