President Pranab Mukherjee appreciated the contribution of J. Jayalalithaa, the incumbent chief-minister of Tamil Nadu, to Tamil films in particular and to Indian films in general. Those remarks were made during the course of the valedictory address delivered by the President on Tuesday (24th September) on the occasion of the concluding day of the centenary celebrations of Indian cinema in Chennai.
After giving away awards to life-time achievers, the President “The effect of Indian film music on commoners and music-lovers has been immense, to say the least. Millions of people have been enjoying the fruits of the sweetness of Indian music manifested through many immortal songs in various languages. MGR and Nagi Reddy are among the doyens who have adorned the throne of Indian cinema.
“In this regard, reference should also be made about the immense contribution of J. Jayalalithaa, the chief-minister of Tamil Nadu, to Tamil films in particular and to Indian films in general during her tenure as an actress prior to his entry into politics. On this historic occasion, I take pride in presenting the first award to her. It is also notable that South Indian films invariably win many national awards for excellence under various categories,” concluded the President.said “Humans have been creating history for a long time now. Dada Saheb Phalke made the first talkie of Indian cinema. Indian film industry has branched out in various States and has been growing stronger by the day. Adapting itself nicely to the changes taking place and handling various technologies, the Indian film industry has become one of the leading film industries in the world.
