Not many expected Grand Masti, the adult comedy film by Inder Chopra that abounds in vulgarity of an unimaginable kind and is packed with ambiguous dialogues that border on cheap, to be such a huge hit. But box office records speak volumes about how much the audience has loved this movie.
The movie has grossed a whopping Rs 40.5 crore in the opening weekend of its release. That places it in the fourth spot afterChennai Express, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewaniand Race 2, as the movie with the highest gross this year in its opening weekend.
A week has gone by since its release and it has already minted Rs 67 crore in the box office and is going strong. The movie received very little competition from Horror Story and John Day. While Horror Storycould not come any close to its success story, John Day’s reception was pathetic.
Grand Masti is the sequel to Masti. The movie has Vivek Oberoi, Riteish Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani reprising their roles as husbands tired of the monotony of marriage. The movie also stars a number of female actors.
