The Chennai High Court has stayed the functioning of Keyaar, the newly-elected president of the Tamil Film Producers’ Council (TFPC), with immediate effect and has directed him not to discharge his function until further orders.
The Court order follows a petition filed with it by ‘Kalaipuli’ Thanu. Thanu contested opposite Kayaar in the elections to elect the office-bearers of the Council which was held on 07th September. Following counting of votes, Kayaar’s team was elected the winner after which Kayaar formally took over as the president of the Council.
Thanu, however, alleged malpractices in polling and filed a writ petition with the Court. In his petition, he had said “The elections to elect office-bearers of the Tamil Film Producers’ Council were not held as per rules and regulations. Rule stipulates that no advertisement should be placed in the print media and contrary to this, the winning team had placed advertisements in some newspapers.
“Likewise, many rules have been by-passed. I, therefore, request you to stay the functioning of Kayaar as president of the Council pending enquiry.” Justice Sudhakar took up the case and passed interim orders staying Kayaar’s functioning as president of the Council. Time revisits Kayaar who had secured a similar stay against the erstwhile office-bearers of the Council a couple of years ago!
